Sweetheart Creek is about 2 hours south of Juneau, at least by boat. Sweeheart Lake empties out into the ocean and provides some spectacular views on the way down.
There are three pools toward the bottom end of Sweetheart Creek, two of which are fishable, and around the end of July through August the Sockeye and Pink Salmon are returning there to spawn. The Sockeye is basically the premium species of salmon as far as taste goes. They don’t get to be near as big as the King Salmon...but you can still get a pretty good meal off of them.
This is a view from the upper pool and the big waterfall. The salmon can’t jump high enough to get past this point...which makes for some pretty good fishing!
