Fly fishing is one of those nasty little hobbies that can get you addicted after the very first try. Several years ago I had purchased a fly rod from the local Wal-Mart, meaning it was a very inexpensive rod and reel and not worth much more than something to hit a tree branch with, and I proceeded to try and teach myself how to operate it. I figured out how to get the line to go where I wanted it to...my problem was that the “fly” on the end of the line kept snapping off. After going through a whole batch of those I finally quit trying. I held on to the rod though through all these years and miles I’ve travelled, always thinking that I might just try it again someday.
Well, wouldn’t you know it...I found some friends up here that not only go fly fishing...they were willing to teach me how as well. Turned out I was doing one simple thing wrong with my casting. Once we got that figured out we planned ourselves an outing and off we went.
Here I am proudly showing off my first catch, a pink salmon.
